"Amy has developed a real friendship with our daughter ... she has made more progress than we thought possible"

Does this sound familiar?

"They are worried they won't get the grades for the course they want to get on to"

"They've lost confidence or feel embarassed about their maths work"

"We know they have the potential but it's frustrating to see them getting low grades"

"They struggle to have the confidence to tackle questions alone and they're like a deer in headlights when trying to revise"

"They're not connecting with their teacher and it's really affecting their motivation and test grades"

"They have gaps in their learning and you're worried this might impact their grades"

Why it goes deeper than just grades

When a child struggles with maths, it affects more than just their grades. It impacts their confidence and well-being, which starts to affect how they enjoy school and how motivated they feel.

I know how stressful it can feel not knowing how to help. Watching their confidence disappear is difficult for any parent.

That's why I do what I do – showing students what's possible is truly what makes this worthwhile for me.

"Most students don't struggle with maths because they can't do it — they struggle because they believe they can't."

What if maths could be different?

From my 11 years in the classroom, I've come to realise that the most important factor for a child's success is how much they enjoy the lessons, and how connected they feel to their teacher.

As educators, we should be making sure that each and every lesson builds excitement for the subject and celebrates the progress the child makes. This enthusiasm translates into:

  • Your child working hard
  • Your child actively engaging their brain in difficult problems
  • Your child feeling happy about maths at school again
  • Your child seeing their grades improve naturally

How online lessons work

All lessons take place on Pencil Spaces, an interactive platform with video calls and shared whiteboards. Students create a free account and can join from home with just a laptop and camera.

Real-time collaboration with instant feedback. Interactive whiteboard for working through problems together. Easy scheduling around other activities. All homework completed and marked on the platform.

"My son was not happy about having a tutor at first, but he now looks forward to his lessons. He always comes away from the lesson on a high. Amy is great at getting my son engaged in the lessons at a level he understands. I'm really pleased with the progress he is making and more importantly the confidence he now has gained."

My tutoring framework – Enjoy. Engage. Excel.

Most students don't struggle with maths because they can't do it — they struggle because they believe they can't. This framework is all about building confidence, helping students feel involved, and setting them up to thrive.

😊 Enjoy

  • Lessons are calm, warm and built on trust
  • Rapport is built by sharing interests and showing students they're seen and heard
  • We talk openly about worries so students see that struggling is normal and doesn't mean they're "bad" at maths
  • We get excited about the fun there is to be had in learning maths

🎯 Engage

  • An interactive whiteboard where students write their answers live, solve problems with me, and have their own board for homework and extra tasks
  • Lessons are active — students are always solving, thinking, or explaining
  • Thoughtful questions to make sure everyone is involved in a way that suits their confidence level

🚀 Excel

  • Low-stakes mini-assessments used to track progress and make learning stick
  • Every lesson is uniquely planned to close gaps to dramatically improve progress
  • Plus students get personalised video or voice note feedback on every homework
